Frequently Asked Questions

Solo Rescue Decon Washer

What type of PPE can I wash/decontaminate in the Solo Rescue Decon Washer?

You can either wash complete SCBAs including face masks, face masks separately, helmets, boots or gloves in the Solo Rescue. And with our accessory the Small Parts Holder you can even wash the small parts of your PPE such as disassembled breathing valves and regulators.

How do I operate the Solo Rescue Decon Washer?

The basic principle for operating the Solo Rescue is that you load the Heavy Duty Basket with the PPE you intend to decontaminate. Depending on the type of gear you might need different accessories such as SCBA holder, Gear holder, Helmet holder or Small Parts holder.

Once the machine is loaded, simply choose a wash program by pressing its button on the control panel.

When the wash program has finished, unload the decontaminated gear and leave it to dry in a clean space dedicated for that purpose.

What results can I expect from the filter system?

The DeconFilter™ Pro S is focused on extracting and reducing the amount of carcinogenic PAH particles in the Solo Rescue wastewater. During tests at a fire department and firefighter training facility in southern Sweden, wastewater samples were taken from the Solo Rescue Decon Washer after a number of training exercises and rescue operations and were then sent to an external third-party laboratory for testing. These lab tests showed that the DeconFilter™ Pro S was able to reduce the amount of PAH M and PAH H compounds (both of whom are currently being classified as carcinogenic by the Swedish EPA) in the wastewater by up to 98 %, or below detection level. Depending on the burnt materials these numbers may vary. See full report here.

How often do I need to change filter cartridges?

Every three months, or according to pressure indicator. More often depending on the degree of contamination.

How long does it take to change filter cartridges?

Approximately 30 min

How do I take care of the old used filter cartridges?

They should be handled and disposed according to local regulations for hazardous material.

Do I need to service the filter system?

You will have to change the filter cartridges every three months, or according to pressure indicator. More often depending on application.

Cleaning of the tank should be done every now and then depending on the degree of contamination.

The pump intake also needs cleaning every 12 months or depending on the degree of contamination.

Can I connect my sink and extractor to the filter system?

No, the filter is designed for the Solo Rescue Decon washers only.

What tools do I need to install the filter system?

Basic toolset only - no special tools.

How do I operate the filter system?

The DeconFilter™ Pro S is designed and built to be connected at all time and it operates without human interaction. It is advised to frequently keep an eye on the system pressure gauge while draining your Solo Rescue Decon Washers to make sure it is running correctly.

Once the filter tank gets filled up with water from the connected Solo Rescue Decon Washers, a built-in float switch automatically starts the pump, transferring the water from the tank through the filter cartridges and eventually out into the drain. Once the tank is emptied the pump will automatically come to a stop.

What purpose does the pressure gauge/indicator serv?

It shows the current pressure in the filter system while it is running. An increased pressure might indicate that a filter change needs to be done.

Where can I buy filter replacement cartridges?

Replacement cartridges are provided by RESCUE Intellitech dealers only. Contact your local dealer for more information.
