Recent research suggest a relationship between the exposure to hazardous toxic chemicals female firefighters are being exposed to in their line of duty and breast cancer. This might not come as a surprise but with firefighting being a predominant male occupation most studies regarding firefighter related cancer risk has been made on men.
Hopefully, we will see more studies on the subject in a near future that can help raise awareness of the risk female firefighters are facing while risking their lives protecting ours. And hopefully this will lead to women getting the same recognition and benefits as their male colleagues in case of a breast cancer diagnose.
Fighting cancer means waging a war on two fronts. One is to try and prevent cancer from developing in the first place and the second one is to help with cancer treatment.
